Why Invetta Model Farm
Invetta Model Farm came into existence in order to commercialise agriculture in Kalungu District
Invetta Model Farm is tasked to demonstrate sustainable agribusiness in rural Kalungu District.
Invetta Model Farm came into existence in order to commercialise agriculture in Kalungu District and as an answer to tackle effects of land degradation in form of decreasing crop yields; soil erosion; poor water management – making crop farming very vulnerable; reduced biodiversity, seen in a lack of visible life in the soil like earth worms, all being indicators of poor soil health.
Transforming Subsistence into Surplus: The Invetta Model of Rural Agro-Industrialization
The African Agro-Industrial Imperative
Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) holds approximately 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, yet the region remains a net importer of food and processed goods. For districts like Kalungu in Uganda, the primary economic challenge is not a lack of resources, but the “value gap”—the tendency to export raw agricultural commodities while importing expensive processed versions of those same goods. Agro-industrialization, particularly at the “cottage” scale, offers a pathway to bridge this gap, monetizing rural resources to alleviate systemic poverty.
